Abstract
6499. Klaiber, M. March 15. Optical projection apparatus.-Two or more series of illuminated advertisements, pictures &c. A, B, Figs. 2 and 3, situated angularly to each other, have the rays from one or more of the series deflected so that they are seen simultaneously from the same point of view. They may be changed in the Intervals between displaying them. The series of pictures A is projected directly on to a screen E by means of one or more electric lamps 33, while the. series B has the light of a lamp 32 concentrated upon it by a condenser 31, and a projector 30 throws the image upon a reflector 34, pivoted at points 36, and adjustable by means of a slotted arm 38 and nut 40, which deflects it to the similarly adjustable reflector 35 on its way to the screen E. A motor 70 drives the apparatus through a worm 72, which engages a toothed wheel 73 on a shaft 74. The shaft 74 bears a toothed wheel 76, having a stud 78 on one of its faces, which engages one of the slots 79 on the star-wheel 82 at each revolution. The concave edges of the star-wheel 82 engage a segmental flange 81 on the wheel 76 and so the drive is steadied. On the shaft 83 of the starwheel is fixed a toothed wheel 85, which meshes with a pinion 86 on the shaft 87, which operates the series of advertisements &c. A. A chainwheel 84 on the axle 83 drives the operating- shaft of the series of advertisements &c. B through bevel gearing 96, 97. To extinguish the projection on the screen E when the advertisements &c. are being changed, a chain-gearing 104 from the axle 77 of the gear-wheel 76 operates a switch 56, Figs. 3 and 10, and a shutter G simultaneously. A disk on an insulating hub 51 bears the segmental shutter G, and on one side has a conducting ring 55 connected up by conducting pins 57 to a conducting element 56 with a cut-away portion 58. A pair of conducting fingers are capable of resting against the elements 55, 56 and they complete the circuit through the lamps 33. When the cut-away part 58 meets one of the fingers, the circuit of the lamps 33 is broken, and the shutter G at the same time cuts off the rays of projection of the advertisements &c. B to permit of the display being invisibly altered. The advertisements &c. A may be secured upon bars 22, Fig. 9, held by flanges 122 rigidly connected to flanges 121, secured to, or forming parts of, links in the side-chains 20, 21. The advertisements &c. B may be held in a frame 25, Fig. 6, by means of side and bottom flanges 125, 127 and spring pieces 129. Flanges 128, similar to the flanges 121, Fig. 9, secure the holders 25 to the side chains.
