Abstract

5970. Dodds, J. March 10. Washing-apparatus with screens.-An apparatus for washing coal particularly for use in conjunction with the apparatus described in Specification 29,639/09, comprises a circular vessel containing a rotating perforated table to the underside of which water is supplied, and means for discharging the coal and dirt. Coal is fed on to a perforated table 2 which rotates in a tank 1 and is provided on its underside with inclined radial blades 3 for agitating the water. Water is supplied under pressure by a pipe 4. An inwardly-projecting sweep 5 is attached to the wall of a vessel 1 and causes the dirt to pass to an opening 6 from which it is removed through a rotary valve 11. The lighter coal is removed to a shoot 10 by a partly perforated sweep 8 and an inclined perforated plate 9. The cover 14 is provided with rows of depending pins 15 arranged in staggered series, serving to retard the rotary motion of the coal and allow time for sufficient washing.
