Abstract
3717. Jones, W. D. March 5, 1909, [Convention date]. Fares, registering, door &c. apparatus for.- In tramway &c. vehicles wherein the fare is paid upon entering, two sets of entrance barriers are provided, each of which on operation sets the other in position. A hollow shaft 8 mounted at the entrance carries within it a sleeve 50 and a shaft 9, to which is secured by slots 10, 11 and a lug and notch 56 a barrier 12 in which is mounted the registering-device 60. The sleeve 50 carries a locking-disk 23 adapted to be engaged by a spring bolt 19 operated by a treadle 52. The sleeve 50 also carries a barrier arm 29 at its upper end, and a crank 25 at its lower end. The shaft 9 bears a crank 24, both of which are connected by links 27, 28 to a crank 26 carried bv a shaft 53 mounted in a hollow shaft 13. The shaft 53 carries a bevel-gear 14 and a barrier arm 30. The bevel-gear communicates its motion to a shaft 16 carrying an arm 61. On entering the car a passenger, after the conductor has released the apparatus by depressing the pedal, presses against the arms 29 or 30 and, through the crank 26 and the connecting-rods 27, 28, sets the arms 12, 51 into the registering position shown in Fig. 3. Further pressure on the arm 12 moves it through a twelfth of a revolution and lowers the arm 51, as shown in Fig. 5, thus allowing entrance to the car and bringing the arms 29, 30 into the blocking position. The registering - apparatus 60 is actuated when an arm 65 on a rod 66 meets one of two projections 64, 63. The upper arm 63 registers passengers travelling by transfer, and is brought into operation by raising the rod 66 with a pedal 69 connected to the unlocking pedal 52.
