Fire-bridges.-Air for secondary combustion is supplied to a perforated easily-renewable box fitted at the back of the fire-bridge by one or more pipes passing through the ash-pit. As shown, the box is formed in two parts x, x<1>, the former having flanges e‹ and hollow boxes e<1> by which it is supported on removable collars h on the air-supply tubes a. The portion x<1> is formed with end and tap holes i, f, and is preferably fitted with short tubes g of different lengths. The tubes a are bent upwards immediately behind the fire-bridge; and the box is fixed so that the air is delivered in the same direction as the furnace gases.
