Abstract

Fire-boxes; tubes, water. -In a locomotive fire-box having its front, top, and rear formed by a flat-sided box a arching the fire-grate, the sides are formed by inclined water-tubes f, which lift the water over a flange j, provided in order to retain water upon the top of the fire-box. The tubes are secured by four-way tubular fittings g, which are expanded into the flat sides of the box a. Two branches h of each fitting afford access to a tube and to the box for cleaning purposes.
