Abstract

1500. Fielden, F. Jan. 20. Fuel, feeding.-Fuel is charged upwards into a gas-producer through a retort from a charging- cylinder d, having a trunk piston e working in combination with a sliding plate f which keeps the fuel in place while the piston descends for a further charge. A rope-pulley g, by a wormshaft h and wheel i, actuates cams j, k which by a system of levers impart a reciprocating movement to the trunk piston e and sliding plate f. The cams are relatively adjustable so that the plate may be inserted at any desired point of the stroke of the piston, in order to vary the feed.
