[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, arrangement and construction of; steering; propelling. - The supporting-planes of an aerial machine are divided centrally and pivoted on vertical or nearly vertical axes about which the planes can be adjusted for balancing and steering laterally, or for varying the supporting effect of the planes. The planes a', a<2> may be pivoted at their inner ends h<1>, h<2> to a fixed central plane a; or the central plane may be dispensed with and the planes pivoted on axes some distance away from their inner ends. The planes may be adjusted separately or simultaneously. The planes are formed of a framework comprising front, central, and rear spars o, m, p, Fig. 3, and ribs w, covered with fabric. The car n, Fig. 1, is pivotally mounted on a rod d and carries brackets n<1> supporting the propellers c', c<2>. The car can be adjusted fore and aft on the rod d for altering the centre of gravity of the machine.
