Abstract

28,443. Proctor, W. E. Dec. 6. Guided-skip and hopper hoists.-In a guidedskip or hopper hoist in which sheaves on the skip work in guides, the guide or guides depend from one or more hook-shaped headers attached to the hopper or shoot, so that, on hoisting, the sheaves engage with the headers, and the bucket is automatically tipped. Means are provided for assisting the bucket to right itself. The bucket F is pivoted at J to the supporting- bridle G; and sheaves H, M carried by the bucket engage the rope or other guide A on one side, while the sheave L engages the guide on the other side. When the bucket is hoisted, the sheave L enters the curved slot D of the header, the other sheaves bearing on the outside surface O. Guides and rollers mav be provided on the opposite side of the bucket, as shown in Fig. 4. In a modification, two headers with corresponding pulleys on either side of the bucket are provided. In a second modification, shown in Fig. 7, a counterweighted lever S may be provided for assisting the bucket to right itself after tipping; and this lever may be connected to a lip x, pivoted to the hopper, to prevent spilling of the contents of the bucket during tipping.
