DERRICK GABLEWAY. I APPLICATION F ILED MAR. 22. 1901.

EWM flaw UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE HENRY EVANS, OF BRECKENRIDGE, COLORADO, ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN HOIST & DERRICK CO., OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, A COR- PORATION.
DERRlCK-CABLEWAY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 718,611, dated January 20, 1903.
Application filed March 22,1901. Serial No. 52,300. (No model.)
Ton/ll whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY EVANS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Breckenridge, in the county of Summit and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Derrick-Cableways, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in derrick-cableways; and it consists in the arrangement of derrick and cable hereinafter specifically described in connection with means for adjusting said cable and for actuating the car arranged upon the cable.
The drawing represents a conventional View of my improved cableway.
In the drawing, A represents a derrick of ordinary construction consisting of a mast 2, mounted on a suitable platform 3, said mast and platform being rotated by a bull-gear l, actuated by a suitable source of power.
B represents the main tackle-line of the derrick, running from the drum E over suitable pulleys F to the block G. Connected with the block G is the main cable H, running to the tail-ropes I and I. These tailropes run over pulleys J upon the deadmen K and K to the drums L of the engine M.
N represents a skip provided with carrying- Wheels 0, by which it is supported upon the main cable H. The skip is provided with a suitable tripping device P. In order to draw the skip along the main cable toward the mast, I provide the cord Q, running over the pulley R to the drum S, carried by the derrick-platform.
In operation, with the parts arranged as shown in the drawings, the winding up of the main tackle-line Will draw the main cable into the dot-and-dash-line position shown, when the skip will slide down the main cable toward the deadmen for dumping. By winding up the skip-line Q the skip is drawn toward the mast, and by unwinding the main tackle-line the skip is lowered for reloading. In connection with the unwinding of the main tackle-line the tail-lines may be unwound to assist in bringing the skip into the proper unloading position. By operating the drums of the engine M the point of connection between the main cable and tail-lines may be brought toward either of the deadmen, thus widening the area within which the material may be hoisted and dumped. In connection with the adjusting of the tailropes the derrick-mast may be rotated to face the proper point. The arrangement may be modified without departing from the invention, the scope of which is defined in the following claims.
I claim 1. A derrickcableway of the class described, comprising in combination, aderrick or mast provided with an adjustable tackleline, tail-ropes supported below the derrick end of said tackle-line, a cable connecting said tackle-line and tail-ropes, means for actuating said tail-ropes to adjust the lower end of said cable, and a block trolley-car arranged to travel upon said cable.
2. A derrick cableway of the class described, comprising in combination a derrick provided with an adjustable tackle line, deadmen arranged below the derrick end of said tackle-line, a cable connecting said tackle-line with said deadmen, a block trolley car or skip arranged to travel upon said cable, and an actuating-cord therefor.
3. A derrick cableway of the class described, comprising in combination a derrick provided. with an adjustable tackle -line, deadmen arranged below the derrick end of said tackle line, a cable connecting said tackle-line with said deadmen, a block trolley car or skip arranged to travel upon said cable, and a controlling-cord connected with said skip.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE HENRY EVANS.
