Washing fruit and vegetables. - Apparatus for cleaning and boiling fruit and vegetables, particularly for preservation, consists of an outer vessel adapted to serve as a boiler and a perforated inner container adapted to receive the fruit &c. and to be reciprocated in the outer vessel for the purpose of cleaning prior to boiling. The outer vessel a, which rests on a stand d, or is supported on a stove &c. by means of a flanged ring c, has a sloping bottom b and an outlet tap f. The sieve is formed in two telescopic parts m, n, adjustable for receiving varying quantities of fruit &c. by means of a screw h<1> and nut o<1> formed on shafts extending upwards through the lid of the vessel a. For cleaning, the fruit is loosely enclosed in the sieve and is reciprocated vertically in the outer vessel a, which is filled with water. A scraper r rotatable by a tube p serves to remove any impurities adhering to the upper face of the sieve. The sieve is then removed from the vessel a and the fruit introduced directly therein for the purpose of boiling.
