Abstract
26,722. Gulline, H. L. Nov. 17. Folding boxes comprise four corner posts b each consisting of two parts connected by plate hinges c arranged in longitudinal slots so that the posts can only fold inwards or towards the centre of the box. The lower ends of the pairs of posts are connected by strips k, and the upper ends of the front and rear posts are connected, respectively, by a bar g of square section and a bar o having its lower corners rounded. The pivotal connexions of the posts and the bars k, o, respectively, are effected by means of pins 30, Fig. 7, having heads 31, passing loosely through holes in the posts and driven into the bars, the portions within the bars being cemented in place. The posts are slitted vertically to receive the tenoned ends of the panels m, forming the sides. The bottom consists of a panel p secured to the lower bars k and furnished with strengthening-battens along its longitudinal edges; the ends consist of panels s which fit snugly between the front and back panels and the ends of the bottom and cover. The cover is similar in construction to the bottom, and is secured to the pivoted rear bar o, the front batten being recessed at the places x to facilitate access to the screw-holes y. Sealing-labels may be placed at these points when the cover is secured in position. The front and rear panels are braced together by links t having slotted ends permitting the necessary relative movement of the parts to allow the box to be folded. The links also serve as handles. In folding the box, the ends are slid out of position and laid upon the bottom, and the hinged sides are folded down upon the bottom, the space between the doubled side parts forming a receptacle in which folded partitions &c. may be stored.
