[Cognate Application, 11,384/10.] Protectors, securing.-A metal plate h, Fig. 11, is let into the body part of the heel and is formed with one or more recesses j, one or more positioning-stops k, and inclined races l, m. The detachable part of the heel, which may consist of one or more lifts, carries a plate o provided with one or more projecting lugs p. These lugs are passed through the recesses j, with the two parts of the heel at right-angles to each other, as shown, and the tread part is then rotated in the direction of the arrows to wedge the lugs p along the inclined races l, m. When the tread part is properly positioned, as determined by the stops k, which also facilitate the initial positioning of the parts, the two parts of the heel are secured by a screw or a spring pin. The detachable part of the heel may be provided with a removable quarter-tip, or with a rotatable pad z, Fig. 25. This pad is fitted with a spiked riog 1 and a filling-in piece 2, and the whole device is then spanked on to the tread.
