Abstract

Brasses and linings.-A bearing-brass for railway and tramway vehicles &c. has an intermediate lining 4 of brass or similar metal between the iron or steel shell 1 and the bearing-surface 6 of antifriction metal. The lining 4 takes the wear of the axle when the outer lining 6 becomes fused or worn away. The lining 4 is cast into an archshaped recess 5<1> through a dovetailed opening 5, the lining 6 being cast through openings 7. The linings are separately retained on the shell by means of the dovetailed openings.
