Abstract
25,120. Wood, W. R. Nov. 1. Ratchet gearing.-In variable-speed gearing of the class comprising a ratchet-coil frictionclutch, the driving-shaft A, Fig. 2, carries a fixed inclined cam-groove A<2> with an engaging yoke F<1>, by means of which a constant oscillating motion is imparted to a second shaft B. The coil clutch H', which connects the shaft B to a driven shaft C, is modified to impart a feed of variable amount to the shaft C. The coil H<1>, which is adapted to grip in one direction only a drum H upon the shaft C, is connected to the shaft B, by an adjustable lostmotion device shown in Fig. 3. A hub G secured to the shaft B carries a fixed projection G<2> and a movable projection K<2>, between which resides a projection H<2> from one end of the coil H<1>. A screw K<1> is provided for moving the projection K<2> towards and from the projection G<2> and so increasing and decreasing respectively the speed of the shaft C.
