Abstract

24,854. Hall, C. E. Oct. 29. Ball mills ; crushers with vibrating jaws.- Apparatus for crushing, pulverizing, screening, and amalgamating ores, quartz, &c. comprises a preliminary jaw-crusher for reducing large pieces of rock, and a ball or tube mill having rough and fine crushing-chambers with a screening-chamber at its end. The jaw-crusher has one or more serrated swing jaws B, Fig. 1, mounted at the lower end upon an eccentric shaft supported in bearings M, and the crushed material passes by a spout J into the rough-crushing chamber E, Fig. 1<A>, of the ball mill. The chamber E contains different-sized balls and is lined with steel side plates C' and an outer ring C, beneath which renewable bars forming grids are placed. Lifting- bars E<1> are fitted in the mill ; and the material which passes through the grid is directed by inclined bars E<3> into curved ducts which deliver into the long ball mill V. The material is pounded by a number of smaller balls in the drum V and passes to the enlarged screening-chamber X, a guard-plate 7 preventing the passage of the balls. The drum V is lined with curved steel plates which may be stepped, and any coarse residue left in the chamber X is returned to the drum V by the internal buckets Y. The ball mill is supported by circular rails 2<A> on friction rolls 2. Fig. 8 shows a modification in which the ball mill has two annular chambers P ; the ore passes between the bars E, E<1> into the screen X, and the coarser sand is returned by the duct plate N to the mill for re-grinding ; the finished stuff passes by the plate M into an amalgamating-chamber F. The chamber F is charged with balls and lined with renewable plates V forming corrugations at their joints, the removable end-plate H being operated by a handwheel J on a screw fixed to the stop-plate I. According to the Provisional Specification, serrated teeth are cast upon the faces of the jaw-crusher in series from top to bottom, and the bottom series of teeth on the fixed jaw are inclined forwards while those on the moving jaw are inclined backwards.
