Abstract

23,899. Peat, W. H. Oct. 19. Springs, arrangement of and mounting bodies on; rest - bars. -A detachable stretcher is mounted upon a trailer having two wheels carried by a pair of forks rigidly secured together; the head end of the stretcher being supported in a resilient manner and the foot end provided with means for coupling it to a bicycle. The stretcher is formed by lacing canvas to two poles c, which spread from the front towards the rear or head end, and are secured together by cross-bars d, d<1>. The bar d' is connected to the bicycle by a universal joint and clip e, the rear ends or handle portions of the poles c being supported by slings arranged between a bar g connecting the fork crowns and a bar h which slides upon the stems of the wheel forks between springs j, j<1>. The wheel axles are connected by a bar f, and, to retain the wheels in place, a cord m, adjusted by a runner, is looped over a hook n on the front bar d', other cords m<1> being connected to the fork stems and to studs on the poles. Handles l enable other cyclists to assist the rider of the towing-machine. In order that the ambulance may stand alone when detached from the bicycle, each pole carries a leg o which may be turned down to engage the ground, and in this position the leg is held by a cross-piece passed above the pole and through the limbs of the forked extremity o<1>.
