Metal-heating and annealing furnaces. - Furnaces employed in connexion with rolling-mills are provided with an end or a central fire-place A and with chambers B, C for heating bars and annealing sheets, respectively, dampers being arranged so that these chambers may be worked alone or together. As shown in the drawings, a pair of sheet - heating chambers is provided, and, when the chamber B, Fig. 1, is in operation, furnace gases pass either through dampered flues b<1> at each side leading to the chambers C or through correspondinglyarringed flues b<5> leading to a chamber H and a dampered outlet flue h. By closing the flues b<1>, b<5>, the whole of the furnace gases are made to pass through a flue E above the domed roof B' into the chambers C, whence they escape through flues c at each side of these chambers and pass to the dampered outlet flues c<3>, c<4>. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the fire-place A is arranged between the bar-heating and annealing chambers.
