Abstract

20,550. Hebb, S. B. B., and Mackinlay, J. J. H. Sept. 8. Splashing-apparatus; jet nozzles.-An adjustable spreader for apparatus for cooling water &c. consists of a conical part d, which extends within an aperture in a plate j attached to the flange c of a branch pipe b. The part d is connected by an arm e, tapered to a knife edge f, to a screwed stem g secured by nuts h, i to the flange c. By loosening the lower nut, the part d may be lifted to the position shown in dotted lines for cleaning &c. In a modification, the arm e is attached to a socket sliding on a vertical stem. The pipes may be laid in a pond, tank, &c., so that the water is discharged upwards through the branches and cooled by contact with the air.
