Abstract
19,596. Loebel, W. Aug. 29. Processes; apparatus for separating gases from liquids.-In order to promote the settling of solid matter in a waste liquid, the liquid is previously subjected to impact or percussion in order to remove air from it. The impact may be obtained by projecting the liquid against a plate, wall, or other surface. As shown in Fig. 1, an impact plate d, surrounded by a wall h, is placed some distance below the end of a supply-pipe g of a settling- tank a. Fig. 2 shows an apparatus comprising a series of vessels m open at the top and at one side, so that liquid from the pipe g flows from one to another. The air may also be separated by passing the liquid down a flight of steps, or by discharging it against a wall, from a nozzle or centrifugal sprayer. Another form of apparatus comprises a conduit in which a circular brush, partly immersed in the liquid, revolves at high speed and acts as a beater.
