Abstract

Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to automatic small-arms of the kind having a detachable breech-box into which the bolt is introduced from below, and consists in providing, at the side of the gun, a detachable housing for the recoil spring. This housing 8, Figs. 2 and 5, is secured between the bottom edge of the breech-box 4 and the top of the frame 1 by a dovetail joint. The bolt 5 is connected to the recoil spring 7 by a lug 37, Fig. 8, which projects through a slot in the side of the breech-box and engages a slide 39 acted upon by the recoil spring. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the slide 39, and with it the breech-bolt 5, can be pressed back by hand by means of a rod 41 projecting from the front of the housing 8. In another construction, no means is provided for retracting the breech-bolt by hand, and in this case an outside lever, mounted on the hammer spindle, is provided for cocking the hammer preparatory to firing the first shot. The top edges of the frame project inwards beyond the walls of the breech-box, as shown in Fig. 5, and form a support for the breech-bolt.
