Abstract

19,577. Hunz, J. Aug. 26. Winding - machines. - In a cross - winding machine for winding cops, the thread is guided and traversed by means of a slit drum. The. drum may drive the cop by surface contact and may be cylindrical or conical, or the cop spindle may be driven by means of toothed gearing from the drum shaft. As shown in Fig. 2, the cop k is driven by the part x of the drum, a freely rotating cone g being provided to cause the cop to be moved longitudinally as it becomes filled up. The cone g may be dispensed with, the drum a being made conical; or the cop spindle c may be set obliquely to enable the drum to bear upon the chase i of the cop. Fig. 10 shows an arrangement in which the cop spindle c is driven by toothed gearing r, r' from the drum shaft a<2>, a rod c<1> of triangular section telescoping into the spindle c to transmit rotary motion and also to permit longitudinal movement of the cop. In another arrangement, the gears r, r<1> are adapted to slide endways, the gear r<1> being splined to the drum shaft, and the gear r being attached to the cop spindle and carried in a sliding frame.
