19,200. Bates, A. J. Aug. 20. Folding bedsteads; bedsteads convertible into seats. -A bedstead adapted to fold up into the form of a box for containing the bedding &c. comprises a box A having a top made in three parts K, L, M, hinged together and adapted when folded to be within the part M, the section L being hinged to the side of the box part. In the extended position, the parts K, M are supported by flaps H, I hinged to projecting pieces F, G on the sides D, E of the box. The top sections may be fitted with wooden or metal spring lathes Q to form a mattress. When used as a chair, the section K is supported at an angle by struts N engaging notches in the top of the flaps H, I ; and the section M is either folded up or dropped at its front side to form a leg-rest. To facilitate folding, the front and rear sides B, C are recessed at the top.
