Electro-magnets.-An electro-magnetic brake for rails, wheels, and pulleys consists of single electromagnets connected together like the links of a chain so that the brake may adapt itself to the irregularities of the rails &c. The separate magnets A may be capable of magnetizing the rail transversely or longitudinally and they are pivotally connected together by bolts B. Single links of the chain can be formed of non-magnetic - material for producing an increased friction.
