Abstract

18,742. Makin, E. Aug. 14 Rotary-chamber apparatus; air, supplying.- The apparatus described in Specification 9835/95, in which hot air and the material to be dried are passed in at one trunnion of a rotating drum. arc carried through a winding passage formed by baffle-plates in the drum, and are finally drawn out at the other trunnion by an exhaust fan, is modified so as to use any number of rotating drums in series, thus drying the material more completely. In the apparatus shown, drums are arranged in pairs, and their inlets are connected to a furnace or other source of hot air. The first four drums have also each a hopper 14, conveying-screw, and pipe 16, whereby the material is delivered through the inlets 13 to the drums. The materials from the drums 1, 2 are delivered through the outlets to a pipe 18 and passed by a fan 19 through a pipe to a cyclone separator 21, when the steam and vapour generated are discharged, and from which the material descends through a shoot 22 to, say, the drum G. The material from the drums .3, 4 may pass to the drum 7 in like manner. The drum 5 may be fed independently, or from the drums 1 ...4, and the materials from the drums 5, 6 pass in like manner to the drum 7. The material from this drum passes through the pipe 18 and up through the pipe 20 till it meets an intercepting pipe 23, down which the heavier and moister part falls to a hopper 24 at the inlet of drum 8. This material circulates through the drum 8 and pipes 18, 20, 23 till, when sufficiently dry, it passes on to a cyclone separator 21 and is discharged to any or all of the drums 9... 12, wherein the drying is completed.
