Gas burners; burners, mounting a n d adjusting. - The burners of a machine for singeing stockings, the forms or supports of which are given a fixed path of movement during which the stockings are subjected to the different steps incident to singeing, are supported in position by a yoke 20 on a standard 5, this yoke having adjustable sleeves 21, in which the supporting-pipes 31 are carried, and the lower ends of these pipes are attached by springs 47 to adjustable arms 23 mounted on vertically-adjustable holders 22. The burners are thus allowed to swing, and their position may also be adjusted. The burners 26, Fig. 4, are connected to the pipes 31 by connexions 29, 30, and a valve 32 below the pipe 30 acts in conjunction with the plug 33 to shut off the lower part of the burner when half-hose and the like are being singed. The burners are provided with screens 27 and a deflector 28 to concentrate the flame on the passing stockings, and are supplied with a mixture of gas and air from the pipes 31. The air is pumped in to a central opening in the tube 36, Fig. 2, which has controlling-valves 37, while gas enters from a pipe 38 into a similarly provided pipe 39, and the gas and air are mixed in the tees 41, which are preferably in the form of ejectors as usual, while to allow the swinging of the burners 26, a coupling 42, Fig. 6, having a flared mouth 43 to receive a bushing 44 mounted on a stem 45 and held by a spring 46, is interposed between the pipes 31 and the tees 41. The lower ends of the burners are attached to the arms 23, Fig. 2, screws 24 entering plugs therein. Further the burners are made to move in unison with the forms for a short period, and for this purpose are provided with projections 48, Fig. 4, which are engaged by the forms and moved round until they escape, whereupon the springs 47 return to burners to meet the next forms.
