Pulping-engines.-In an engine for breaking and bleaching paper-making materials, the pulp is circulated through a continuous trough A by means of a rotating beater or impeller C consisting of four curved blades, which are roughly triangular in cross-section and are formed with serrations c. The beater is mounted in a casing B, the pulp entering the casing through an inlet b at the boss and leaving through a rising outlet a<5> at the top. The part a<2> of the trough is enlarged in height towards the bend a<3>, and the part a<4> of the trough is contracted towards the outlet a<5>.
