Abstract

Dynamos, driving.-Dynamos, more particularly for train or motor-car hghting, are driven through a device, which, at a certain minimum speed, allows the machine to overrun the prime mover, and be driven from the battery as a motor. The dynamo is driven by a pulley e, Fig. 2, provided with ratchet teeth h, which engage pawls g carried by a member f fixed on the dynamo-shaft d. Or the centrifugally-controlled friction clutch shown in Fig. 3 may be used, in which the member q of the clutch is fixed on the dynamo-shaft d, and the member l, links o, weights p, and driving-pulley e are carried by a loose sleeve k. The device may be used in any case in which a dynamo is liable to run as a motor, as for instance in the case of a booster.
