Abstract

108,704. Rhodes, W. F. W., and Firth, J. Aug. 12, 1916. Addition to 107,260, Dynamos, driving.-The apparatus described in the parent Specification is modified so that the dynamo may act as a starting motor. The dynamo-electric machine may have variable-speed friction gearing working in conjunction with a centrifugal governor controlling a device for cutting out the dynamo when the engine speed falls to a predetermined limit, as described in the earlier Specification. The driving-mechanism between the dynamo-electric machine and the shaft A may be modified as shown in Fig. 2, in which the friction wheels A, B have at M, M<1> additional contacting surfaces which engage during the starting operation. Wheel teeth may be provided on the conical surfaces M, M<1>.
