Abstract

17,115. Colman, H. D., and Peterson, B. A. July 22, 1908, [Convention date]. Doffing-arrangements; bobbin-applying apparatus.-A doffing-mechanism comprises a carriage which is mounted on a rail at the front of a ring frame and carries a shaft, which, when actuated by a handle, operates mechanism which moves the carriage along the frame and retains it before each spindle in turn, removes the full bobbin therefrom, and places an emptv bobbin on the doffed spindle. Two tubes 48, 62 are mounted on the carriage and carry the full and empty bobbins respectively. The tube 48 is raised and lowered by a crank 44 and handle 43, and is provided with pivoted dogs 61 which are arranged to pass freely over the bobbin when the tube descends, but which grip the restricted lower portion of the bobbin when the tube ascends and remove it from the spindle. The tube 62 is provided with a pivoted dog 64, Fig. 7, which is engaged by a projection 71 attached to a bracket 72 operated by the crank, so that on the upward stroke a full bobbin drops on to the bottom tooth 66, and on the downward stroke drops on to the spindle. A spring-pressed plunger 76 is attached to the bracket 72 and presses home a bobbin which has been placed on a preceding spindle. The handle 43 also actuates a vertical shaft carrying three cams 89, 94, 103, Fig. 4, which operate dogs 86, 98 serving to move the carriage from spindle to spindle and to lock it in each successive position. The dog 98 is operated by the cam 103 to grip the bolster of a spindle, and the cam 89 operates the dog 86 so that it grips the bolster of the succeeding spindle. When the dog 98 is retracted, the cam 94 tends to move a bell-crank lever 83 relatively to the dog 86, and thus, since these are connected with each other, moves the carriage longitudinally of the frame until the dog 86 is retracted and the dog 98 advanced to grip the bolster, which is released by the dog 86. The doffing-tube may terminate in a flexible tube in communication with a bobbin receptacle carried by the carriage.
