Abstract

16,688. Rostron, J. April 29. Weft-replenishing mechanism.-In looms provided with shuttle-changing mechanism such as is described in Specification 26,322/06, means are provided to stop the loom if the weft is not laid by a newly-inserted shuttle, and take-up control devices are used in connexion with said means. A link bar a is pivoted on a pin c on the weft-fork holder b, so that when the holder is moved forwards on failure of the weft, the notched end a<1> of the link bar acts upon a stud d and rocks a lever e on the shaft controlling the shuttle-changing mechanism. At the same time, a second notch a' on the bar a engages a pin l<1> on an arm k fixed to the pawl h of the take-up ratchet-wheel, thus raising the pawl h, while a second pin l<2> on the arm k first raises and is then engaged by the hooked 'arm o of a bell-crank lever o, n. If the weft is properly laid by the newly-inserted shuttle, a pin or projection p on the weft-fork hammer g acts on the arm n and removes the hooked arm o from the pin l<2> so that the arm k returns to its normal position, the pawl h re-engaging the ratchet - wheel of the take - up motion. If, however, 'the weft is not properly laid so that the weft-fork mechanism is again 'actuated, the link bar a, which has been raised on its backward movement by an incline a<2> thereon riding up the pin l<1>, misses the stud d and its shoulder a<4> acts upon a pivoted plate-like extension q on the stopping-lever and thus stops the loom. By allowing the pivoted extension q to come below the link bar to be engaged by a shoulder a<5> thereon, the device can be used for stopping the loom in the ordinary way. In a modification, the arm k is connected to the link bar a and its lower free end is adapted to be engaged by a shoulder on a weighted pivoted lever, which raises the arm and the link bar, and is moved to release the arm, if the weft of the newly-inserted shuttle is properly laid, by a bell-crank lever actuated by the weft-fork hammer. In this case, the take-up pawl is preferably connected directly to the shaft controlling the shuttle-changing mechanism.
