Abstract

4905. Faulkner, W. D. March 4. Loom stop-motions ; shuttle-changing mechanism ; take-up motions.-In devices of the type whereby when the weft first fails a fresh shuttle is inserted, while if this shuttle sticks or otherwise fails to complete a pick the loom is stopped, the reshuttling lever a, Figs. 1 and 3, is pivoted to a lever b, which rests on a pin i on a rotary disk d. When the weft fork is operated, a pin c on the weftfork carrier engages the lever b and operates the reshuttling mechanism. The pin c also engages an extension d' on the disk d and rotates the disk from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 3, the cranked end of a lever g then engaging behind a notch d<2> and retaining the disk in its new position. A small boss f on the disk d then allows a lever e pivoted on the disk to fall. On the return motion of the lerer b, the projection b<1> of the lever b is raised by the pin i, and the lever b is moved out of the path of the pin c. If the weft-fork is operated during the next pick, the pin c acts on the lever e and gives a further rotary movement to the disk d, the extension d<1> then pressing against the lever j and stopping the loom. If the weft fork is not operated, a pin h on the weft hammer strikes the depending arm of the lever g, and removes its cranked part from the notch d<2>. The disk d and lever b &c. then move to their normal positions, and this movement may be assisted by a weight or spring. The axis of the disk wheel may be provided with a lever or finger to raise the take-up retaining lever or pawl when the loom is stopped. By means of a small latch, the lever b may be raised so that the loom is stopped each time the weft fails. Reshuttling mechanism such as that described in Specification No. 26,322, A.D. 1906, may be employed. According to the Provisional Specification, a slide may be used in place of the disk.
