Buckles.-A buckle comprises a main frame 1, Fig. 4, on the underside of which slides a secondary frame 2 to produce a wedging action on interposed material. The frame 1 is made of sheet metal and is dished ; it has a cross - bar 20 provided with teeth to which one end of the strap is attached. The metal at the ends is turned under to form a clamping-surface 3 and a tuck-under portion 4. The member 2 slides in ways 5, and has two bars 6 7 in different planes. The free end of the strap is passed between the bars 6, 7 and under the portion 4 of the main frame, and is gripped between the bar 6 aud the inclined surface 3. In a modification, Fig. 7, the clamping-surface 8 is inclined upwards, the sliding member 9 has a thumb-piece 10, and the tuck-under portion 11 is formed as an extension of the main frame. The slideways may consist of an outwardly turned lip 12, Fig. 9, on the main member, with which an inwardly turned flange 13 on the sliding member interlocks. As shown in Fig. 10, the main member may have any ornamental shape, and is provided with sheaths 14, in which bars 15 on the secondary member slide. In Fig. 13 the members are shown with concentric curvatures to increase the gripping effect of the buckle on the strap. The attaching- bar 16 is carried by the sliding member 17, which has a turned-over inclined bar 18 co-acting with the tuck-under part 19 to effect a clamping action.
