12,745. Wetter, J., [Hoffmann-la-Roche & Co., F.]. May 29. Guaiacol sulphonic acid is prepared by sulphonating acidylguaiacols with or without the presence of acetic anhydride &c., and hydrolysing the acidylguaiacol sulphonic acids thus produced, for example by heating, after dilution with water. In this manner are treated guaiacol carbonate, and acetyl and benzoylguaiacol. The excess of sulphuric acid present is removed by barium carbonate, calcium carbonate, etc.; and the guaiacol sulphonic acid or is salts are isolated in the known manner.
