Pictures &c., hanging on walls.-Pictures &c. are suspended by chains composed of detachable links so that the height of the picture &c. may be adjusted, the links being formed so that the chain, when completed, is capable of resisting endlong compression, and is almost equivalent to a suspender formed of a rigid rod such as that described in Specification 12,436/04, to permit the picture &c. to be taken down without the use of steps &c. Each link is made from a blank in the shape of a figure 8, Fig. 1, one end of which is passed through the loops of the adjacent link, which are brought together as shown in Fig. 5, after which the link is doubled at the centre. The link is doubled as shown at d, d<1>, d<2>, Fig. 5, so as to fit closely round the cross-bars e<1>, e<2> of the adjacent link to prevent angular movement, and a bend f is made in one part of the link so as to fit under the cross-bars to prevent endlong movement. The sides of the loops are extended as shown at g so as to prevent lateral movement of the links. The links may be made of embossed or plain sheet metal or of wire, the cross-bars e<1> being formed as flat surfaces in all cases, and the bend f and extensions g being also provided. The connexion between the chain and the picture is formed from a bent piece of metal H, shaped in a similar manner to the centre part of the links and attached by screws &c. to the picture, as shown in Fig. 11. Additional pictures may be supported from the chain by bent hooks P, attached to the picture and engaging one of the links. The upper end of the chain may be attached to a moulding-hook J formed with a loop similar to that of the links, or the last link may be formed with an eye swivelling on the moulding- hook or engaging a nail directly. Two chains swivelling on one eyelet or one moulding-hook may be provided, as shown in Fig. 6. The links may be made of various lengths, as shown in Fig. 8, or the terminal parts may be lengthened and marked so as to resemble a rod or a number of links, the intermediate links being dispensed with. The links may each be formed from a blank with a single loop at its lower end and a spring hook at its upper end shaped in a similar manner to the central part of the links above described.
