Abstract

8172. Osmond, G. E., and Partridg & Cooper. April 5. Book - rests. -A folding book, music, or like rest consists of horiz o n t a l bars and vertical l i n k s so pivoted that, when collapsed, the links lie parallel to one another, and to the bars. Bars a, b, g, are pivoted to links d, d<1>, d<2>, the line joining the pivots e being so inclined that the vertical distance between two adjacent pivots is equal to the width of the links d. A strut h, omitted from Fig. 4, of any desired length is attached to the link d<1>, and can be clamped by a screw i. A stop j, Fig. 4, is fitted to the bar b to limit the amount of shutting and opening. Instead of this stop, a spring detent may be fitted to the bar a, to hold the link d<1> in the open position and prevent accidental collapse of the stand. If desired, the strut may be telescopic, and fixed to the frame by a friction joint.
