Embossing.-In a leather-embossing machine of the type having a stationary inverted pattern plate a, a travelling roller carriage w, and chains d or the like passing from the work-table support to the carriage of the impression roller, the work-table b carried by supports c is held normally against the plate a by chains h and springs f. As the carriage w approaches the ends of its travel, the chains d passing round pulleys o to pins i on the roller carriage are tightened as shown, and pull down the supports c so that the work may be adjusted on the table b. During the passage of the cylinder carriage under the plate a, the latter is pressed against abutments or packing-blocks s, which are tapered from the centre outwards to both sides, so as to allow the plate to conform to inequalities in the leather.
