Controlling different functions by same handle or lever; indicating setting of controlling- apparatus.-In a single-lever control system for the engines of motor-boats, motor-vehicles, or air-ships, the operating lever or handle provided with a suitable indicator is mounted on an axle carrying separate ignition contacts, and crank, chain-wheel, or like parts for controlling the ignition circuit of the engine or otherwise putting the engine into and out of action, and for positively operating the starting-mechanism, the change-speed gear or carburettor control, and the reversing - mechanism, respectively. The control lever may also operate the driving- clutch. In the form shown, the control lever c is mounted on a standard and indicator dial resembling a ship's telegraph. The handle axle carries a metal disk which forms part of the ignition circuit, and makes contact with a terminal carried by the casing, except when the handle is in the " stop " position. The handle axle is connected to the carburettor control by a crank and links h<1>, h<2>. The axle also carries a chain wheel for operating a wheel g<2>, lever g<3>, and rod g<4>. The rod g<4> carries cams n for controlling the clutch o, and a cam g<5> which engages with a lever g<6> for adjusting the valvegear for reversing, and the rod also controls a starting-valve k.
