Abstract
5514. Pellew, R. March 8. Driving and like chains without separate joint pins; sheet-metal chains.-Relates to detailed improvements in the sheet-metal chain links described in Specification 2024/03. The outer struck-up part b makes an acute angle with the plane of the link, so that, when the chain is strained, all the links are in substantially the same plane. The ends of the struck-up parts b, c may be inclined as shown at g, Fig. 1, to facilitate connexion. The opposite end h of the link may be thickened so that the links can only be connected sideways and in the position shown in Fig. 1. The thickened part may be extended at i, Fig. 4, so as to form a stop. The inside of the link may be formed with projections j, Fig. 5, to bear against the teeth of the sprocket-wheel, and the outer struck - up part b may be strengthened by forming corrugated grooves v, Fig. 8, at its junction with the body of the link. The corners q of the links, Fig. 1, may be cut away to allow the links to accommodate themselves to the surface of a sprocket-wheel,
