H. O. CLARK CHAIN CONNECTOR Filed April 15 1921 Patented May 22, 1923.
HORACE O. CLARK, OF WAUKEGAN, ILLINOIS.
CHAIN CONNECTOR.
Application filed April 13, 1921. Serial No. 460,897.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE O. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waukegan, in the county of Lake and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Chain Connector, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a simple but effective means whereby the links of a chain may be held together securely but releasably.
Within the scope of what is claimed, a mechanic may work changes in the structure shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
,In the drawings :-Figure 1 shows in elevation, one member of the connector; Figure 2 is a side elevation of the com lete connector, sectioned links being assem led therewith.
The link forming the subject matter of this application comprises two members 1 disposed side by side, each member having spaced openings 2' connected by a slot 3 of 5 less width than the diameter of either opening, the slot defining an interior lug 4: disposed between the openings, each member having a lateral mouth 5 disposed opposite to the lug and communicating with the slot,
the lug of one member extending across the mouth of the other member and constituting a closure therefor, each member being provided with a tongue 6 projecting from the lug of said member, and extended into the mouth of said member.
The links of a chain are shown at 8 and are engaged in the openings 2. It will be clear that the links may be assembled with the connector, by way of the months 5, and when the members 1 are in the positions of Figure 2, the links but releasably by the connector.
will be held securely The links 8 need notbe of the solid form shown in Figure 2, since 1t is possible to make up a chain composed wholly or in nectors of the sort described.
part by con- I claim A link comprising two members disposed side by side,
each member having spaced openings connected by a slot of less width than the diameter of either opening, the slot defining an interior lug disposed be tween the openings,
each member having a lateral mouth disposed opposite to the lug and communicating with the slot, the lug vided with lug of said a tongue, projecting from the member, and extended into the mouth of said member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, ture.
I have hereto affixed my signa- HORAOE O. CLARK.
