J. FOJTlK BLOCK AND TACKLE Filed June 2. 1924 INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented May 25, 1926.
JOHN FOJ'I'IK, OF NEEDVILLE, TEXAS. 1
BILOCK AND TACKLE.
Application filed June 2, 1924. Serial No. 717,410.
This invention relates to' hoists and has for an objectthe provision of a block and tackle, by means of which applied power will be greatly increased, the construction of the block permitting of a cable arrangement therethrough whereby the leads of the cable will be spaced from one another and therefore not subject to wear due to frictional contact. t
For this purpose, the invention aims to provide a block which includes a number of pulleys arranged so that theflleads of the cable passing therearound will be spaced apart, the pulleys being of different diameters and disposed in substantially triangular formation with their peripheries extending in graduated formation, or successively one beyond the other.
lVith the above and other objects in View,
the invention further includes the following a novel features and details of construction,
to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure l is an elevation of a block and tackle constituting the present invention.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the same.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a pair of blocks which are connected by a cable 11. These blocks each con'iprise a housing which is formed of spaced. plates 12 which have their opposite ends connected by means of a strap 13 extending longitudinally along each of the plates 12 and across the ends thereof. The straps 13 in addition to connecting the plates 12 provide reinforcing portions in which are formed bearings 14 for block trunnions, while hearings or similar trunnions are formed at one end of the housing by reinforcing plates 15. p
The pulleys which are mounted upon the trunnions 14 are of different diameters and at one end of the housing there is provided transversely spaced pulleys 16, while also located within the housing are pulleys 1'7 and 18 of different diameters, the pulley 18 being of a less diameter than the pulley 17. This provides a substantially triangular pulley arrangement with the pulleys 16 forming the base of the triangle, the arrangen'ient being such that the peripheries of the pulleys will extend in graduated for mat-ion. By providing the transversely spaced pulleys 16, the periphery may be extended furtherest outward at this point without providing an excessively large pulley. This permits of the use of a more COlH pact form of block.
The cable 11 is passed around the pul-V leys of the blocks in the manner shown so that the various leads of the cable will be substantially parallel and spaced from one another so that there will be no frictional engagement between the leads of the cable and wear fromthis cause will be prevented.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is In a block and tackle, reversely arranged blocks, each of said blocks being of substantiallytriangular formation, laterally spaced pulleys at the base of the triangle. and pulleys of (litierent dian'ieters spaced centriillv andv longitudinally from said base toward the apex of the triangle with the pulley of smallest diameter outermost, said blocks beingarranged with the apices of the triangles opposed and a cable having one of its ends secured to one of the blocks and passing around all of the pulleys to provide a plurality of substantially parallel leads spaced from one another.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
JOHN FOJTIK.
