Abstract
5325. Coombs, J. A. March 5. FIG.3. Direct air pressure apparatus, automatic.- Apparatus of the direct air - pressure type for raising sewage and other l quids is fitted in two chambers or tubs, one containing the main forcing - ejector, the other a pilot-ejector having the necessary valves and automatic gear for working the apparatus. Further, the chambers for the main ejectors are sometimes divided into two compartments, the upper compartment acting as a silencer; in addition, the parts are constructed so as to facilitate assembling. The pilot ejectors i, inlet pipes d, d<1>, outlet pipes f, g, compressed-air supply pipe k, air-distribution pipes l, exhaust pipe l<1>, inlet valves m, and exhaust valves n are all situated in a central iron chamber a, access to which is obtained by a manhole b. The main ejectors o are placed in chambers p, which have large openings for the pipe connexions so that no special care is necessary when assembling the parts; cementing- materials p<2> between the walls enable the upper part of the chamber p to be used as a silencer. The chambers p, a are supported by beams c<1> and concrete c, and are connected by pipes r with a ventilating - shaft s. The pilot ejectors i are mounted on the pipe e at the position where the inlet and outlet pipes join it; they contain floats which operate the air valves of the ejectors o and pilot ejectors i. Compressed air is led to the pilots by a pipe j leading from the pipes l between the valves m and the ejectors o, so that the pilot and main ejectors act in unison. Two or three ejectors o may be used with one chamber a as shown in Fig. 3. In a modification, the lower part of the tubs p are used as the main forcing-ejectors o; the tubs are also placed side by side. The joints between the pipes e and ejectors o are made with cement. In another modification, the ejectors o are bedded in conrete, and the tubs p of smaller diameter acting as silencers are mounted or them.
