Shearing.-The table of a plate-shearing machine has graduated bars b, b', c formed with holes in which gauging-stops B<1>, B<2>, C<1> are fixed, the stops having slots c<1> giviog an adjustment less than the distance between the holes. In a modification, slots are provided in the bars, and the stops are secured by fly nuts. In shearing the edges of a plate, one edge is first sheared and placed alongside the stop B', and then the second edge is sheared ; one edge is next placed against the stop C' and another alongside the stop B', the third edge being then sheared ; while to shear the fourth edge the stop B' is employed. The stops can also be used for cutting to an angle ; in this case the ends are rounded, and an angular scale may be provided upon the bed.
