Combined liquid and gas pumps. - In refrigerating - apparatus of the compression type, liquid refrigerant is separated from gas and pumped by a pump 22 through the pipe 26 to the liquid reservoir 5. A connexion 25, between a port 23 at the upper part of the pump cylinder and the pipe 11, leading to the compressor permits the pump 22 to be filled with liquid without evaporation. On the downward stroke, the pump plunger closes the port 23, and afterwards expels the liquid through the pipe 26.
