Abstract

1,147,939. Deep well pumps. CHEVRON RESEARCH CO. Oct.24, 1966 [Oct.23, 1965], No.47737/66. Heading F1A. [Also in Division El] A down-the hole pump for an oil well comprises a reciprocable plunger 30, Fig.2, carrying ballvalve 38, and a ball-valve 48 in a fixed housing 40, upward movement of the plunger closing valve 38 and opening valve 48 to admit well-fluid to chamber 37 and downward movement closing valve 48 and opening valve 38. In another embodiment, plunger 114, Fig.5, is reciprocated by piston 112 controlled by slide valve 117 to supply activating fluid from pipe 126 alternately to opposite sides of the piston. The fluid is such as to form an oil-inwater emulsion with the viscous crude oil being pumped, thereby reducing its viscosity, and hence the fluid from the exhaust side of piston 112 passes via passage 107 to the inlet chamber 105. The plunger is double acting with ball-valves 122, 123 controlling the inlets from chamber 105 and ballvalves 111, 113 controlling the outlets 120, 121 to the common delivery passage.
