Abstract

28,141. Rutherford, A. E. Dec. 24. Speed indicators; odometers; counting-apparatus; indicating maximum movements.-A combined speed indicator and odometer is provided with tripdevices showing miles and furlongs. The speed hand 12 is actuated by a ring governor driven from a vehicle-actuated shaft through a sleeve and a toothed quadrant. The speed hand is provided with a maximum indicator 15 locked in position by a ratchet-wheel and a pawl until released on depressing a push 18<a>. The furlongs are exhibited on a disk 33, Fig. 7, seen through an aperture 35, the disk being mounted on a sleeve 34 frictionally secured by a spring 36, Fig. 5, to a wheel 32 driven from the actuating-shaft by spur and worm gearing. The wheel 32 is pressed by the spring against a heart-cam 37 secured to the sleeve 34. The triphand 44 is mounted on a sleeve 52 carrying a heart-cam 55, which is frictionally locked by a spring 54 to a worm-wheel 51 driven by gearing from the actuating-shaft. Spring-controlled arms 38, 56 are provided to return the heart-cams to zero when pushes 40, 58 are depressed. The levers are provided with noses 61, Fig. 4, to act with pins 60 on the cams so as to move the cams over the dead-centre when necessary. A distance totalizer 62 is provided. According to the Provisional Specification, separate dials for the speed hands and trip indicators may be provided, either on the same or on opposite faces of the indicator.
