Abstract

27,757. Weiss, C. W., and Mietz, A. Dec. 21. Gas or explosive-vapour engines. - Two-strokecycle engines are exhausted, and charged with air, through a single piston-controlled port arranged at the end of the piston's out-stroke. In the engine shown in Fig. 1, the exhaust gases escape through the port b and the nozzle h, and induce a charge of air into the chamber k through a port i, which air charge enters the cylinder as soon as the pressure of the products of combustion is reduced below that of the atmosphere. Fuel is injected through the nozzle e, and an interior igniting-snrface is provided at f. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the fuel injection nozzle is inserted in the airsupply and exhaust pipe h<1>. A further modification is described in which the port b is controlled by a mechanically actuated lift valve.
