Abstract

27,605. Broughton, V. W. Delves-, and K÷psel, Von Q. C. Dec. 18. Violins and like bowed instruments.-The stick of a violin bow is formed of two or more strips of bamboo, cane or other suitable material or materials, which are cemented together while bent round a mould or former. The joints may be either radial, with or without a centrally-arranged circular core, or they may be all parallel to a diameter of the bow. The tip of the bow, which is made of ivory, horn, metal or composition, is provided with a slightly conical socket T, into which the stick O is fitted, and is secured in position by means of a screw or pin S. The hairs are secured to the head by means of a wooden wedge W. Duplicate sets of tips and nuts may be provided to facilitate the re-hairing of a bow. According to the Provisional Specification, the butt of the bow may be formed of the stick itself, or of a metal or celluloid extension-piece having a socket into which the stick is fitted, and the tip of the bow may be cemented to the stick.
