Definitions
- This invention refers to the drumstick made of wooden multi-rods with an identical tip which can be used for playing at both ends of the drumstick, as well as a detachable handle. Due to the fact that it contains the tip for playing at both ends and a detachable handle at one end of the stick, as well as the possibility to attach the handle to the other side of the drumstick, this particular type of drumstick increases the durability of the drumstick made of wooden multi-rods.
- drumsticks have a relatively short lifespan due to the wear and tear effect.
- the material at the tip or the body of the stick quickly frays, which is especially true for the drumsticks made of wooden multi-rods characterised by extreme frailty and breakability, as well as faster fraying. In time fraying also causes the unwanted change in sound quality due to repeated drumming on the surface of the drum.
- the speed of fraying of the tip and the body of the drumstick depends on the length of the drumstick usage and the strength of the drumming with the sticks. For example, during a two-hour long concert or a rehearsal a drummer will use one or two sets of drumsticks in order to maintain a satisfactory sound of the impact and a uniform sound tone of desired quality.
- drumsticks with frayed tips or body are not adequate for further usage and thus are discarded.
- the speed of fraying and the frequent need for their replacement are a relatively large financial investment for the average musician.
- Due to the relatively high retail price of the drumsticks which are characterised by frequent fraying and a constant need for the new drumsticks musicians are often forced to improvise in order to reduce costs, using inadequate, frayed drumsticks which do not produce the required tone of the desired quality. Such improvisations put strain on the wrists as well as the fist and can lead to serious injuries.
- drumsticks made of a single piece of wood with an added plastic tip.
- the plastic tip in shape of a cap is firmly and permanently attached to its primary tip thereby protecting it and preventing fraying.
- This plastic tip successfully solves the problem of fraying of the primary tip of the stick.
- the problem of short lifespan of the body of the stick remains.
- this type of solution is not applied to the sticks which are not made of one piece of wood but multi-rods.
- the third possible solution to the durability problem is the drumstick made of a single piece of wood rather than multi- rods. This drumstick has at both ends an identical tip for playing. However, this solution is not applicable to wooden drumsticks made of multi-rods.
- the primary goal of the invention is to improve the usability of the sticks and to increase their durability.
- the stick made of multi-rods is present on today's market and well-known among musicians. It is their primary choice for acoustic drumming or "unplugged" gigs, for a more intimate feel to a smaller audience.
- Such sticks (for example, "hot rods") consist of wooden multi-rods especially designed for concerts in smaller venues since they produce a more delicate sound of a more moderate strength.
- a drum stick made of mutli-rods is usually made in such a way that at one end it contains the tip of free rods/ a brush which is used for playing, while at the other end the rods are permanently fixed together with a non-removable handle.
- the essence of the invention is the creation of a stick made of multi-rods which are permanently glued in the centre of the stick rather than at one end, thus creating the possibility to have a tip used for playing at both ends of the stick.
- the originally fixed and non-removable handle of the stick thus becomes removable/ detachable.
- this invention represents multi-rod drumsticks made of beam rods which are joined together in a way which creates an identical playing tip at both ends of the stick.
- the invention includes a detachable handle which is attached to one end of the stick by means of a parallel thread, and at that end it covers its tip. At the moment of fraying of either the free tip or the body of the stick, which hinders further quality playing, the handle is untwisted, detached and attached to the opposite end of the stick, thus covering the damaged end of the stick.
- the detachable handle made of plastics, by means of which it is possible to firmly grasp and tighten the body of the stick at the end opposite to the end which is used for playing.
- the detachable handle can be made of other materials besides plastic, for example, rubber, metal etc., in any way which enables simple and easy detaching and reattaching of the body of the stick.
- the detachable handle doesn't make the drumstick heavier that the original multi-rod drumsticks with only one tip and non-detachable handle, nor it in any way obstructs the normal and usual way of holding the stick and playing. Since the technique of drumming makes it is necessary for the end of the stick which is in the musician's hand to be heavier than the end which is used for playing, the handle needs to be made in such a way that its weight, next to the weight of the end which it hides and envelops, matches the usual weight of the multi-rod drumstick.

Description
Title of the Invention:
DRUMSTICK MADE OF WOODEN MULTI-RODS WITH A TIP FOR PLAYING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STICK AND A DETACHABLE HANDLE
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The field of the invention
This invention refers to the drumstick made of wooden multi-rods with an identical tip which can be used for playing at both ends of the drumstick, as well as a detachable handle. Due to the fact that it contains the tip for playing at both ends and a detachable handle at one end of the stick, as well as the possibility to attach the handle to the other side of the drumstick, this particular type of drumstick increases the durability of the drumstick made of wooden multi-rods.
A technical problem
All types of drumsticks have a relatively short lifespan due to the wear and tear effect. The material at the tip or the body of the stick quickly frays, which is especially true for the drumsticks made of wooden multi-rods characterised by extreme frailty and breakability, as well as faster fraying. In time fraying also causes the unwanted change in sound quality due to repeated drumming on the surface of the drum.
The speed of fraying of the tip and the body of the drumstick depends on the length of the drumstick usage and the strength of the drumming with the sticks. For example, during a two-hour long concert or a rehearsal a drummer will use one or two sets of drumsticks in order to maintain a satisfactory sound of the impact and a uniform sound tone of desired quality.
The drumsticks with frayed tips or body are not adequate for further usage and thus are discarded. The speed of fraying and the frequent need for their replacement are a relatively large financial investment for the average musician. Due to the relatively high retail price of the drumsticks which are characterised by frequent fraying and a constant need for the new drumsticks, musicians are often forced to improvise in order to reduce costs, using
inadequate, frayed drumsticks which do not produce the required tone of the desired quality. Such improvisations put strain on the wrists as well as the fist and can lead to serious injuries.
Description Of Prior Art
One of the most well-known and commercially most frequently used suggested solutions to the problem of increasing the durability of drumsticks are the drumsticks made of a single piece of wood with an added plastic tip.
The plastic tip in shape of a cap is firmly and permanently attached to its primary tip thereby protecting it and preventing fraying. This plastic tip successfully solves the problem of fraying of the primary tip of the stick. However, the problem of short lifespan of the body of the stick remains. Also, this type of solution is not applied to the sticks which are not made of one piece of wood but multi-rods.
Another way of increasing the durability of sticks is the usage of more durable materials, such as aluminium, carbon fibre or plastic, instead of wood. These different materials, however durable they may be, have an undesirable effect of changing the tone of the impact. Therefore the drummers still prefer to use the wooden stick which has remained their favourite and most widely used.
The third possible solution to the durability problem is the drumstick made of a single piece of wood rather than multi- rods. This drumstick has at both ends an identical tip for playing. However, this solution is not applicable to wooden drumsticks made of multi-rods.
The essence of the invention and its application
The primary goal of the invention is to improve the usability of the sticks and to increase their durability. The stick made of multi-rods is present on today's market and well-known among musicians. It is their primary choice for acoustic drumming or "unplugged" gigs, for a more intimate feel to a smaller audience. Such sticks (for example, "hot rods") consist of wooden multi-rods especially designed for concerts in smaller venues since they produce a more delicate sound of a more moderate strength.
So far it has been known that a drum stick made of mutli-rods is usually made in such a way that at one end it contains the tip of free rods/ a brush which is used for playing, while at the other end the rods are permanently fixed together with a non-removable handle.
The essence of the invention is the creation of a stick made of multi-rods which are permanently glued in the centre of the stick rather than at one end, thus creating the possibility to have a tip used for playing at both ends of the stick. The originally fixed and non-removable handle of the stick thus becomes removable/ detachable. When the rods at one end fray, the handle is detached from the opposite tip and attached to the frayed tip, thereby releasing the opposite tip of free rods to continue playing.
Therefore, this invention represents multi-rod drumsticks made of beam rods which are joined together in a way which creates an identical playing tip at both ends of the stick. Besides fixing the multi-rods in the centre of the stick and thus getting the tip for playing at both ends, the invention includes a detachable handle which is attached to one end of the stick by means of a parallel thread, and at that end it covers its tip. At the moment of fraying of either the free tip or the body of the stick, which hinders further quality playing, the handle is untwisted, detached and attached to the opposite end of the stick, thus covering the damaged end of the stick.
The opposite, "healthy" end of the stick, which has been hidden by the handle, now becomes the tip with which the musician will hit the surface of the drum. Equally, the damaged end of the stick becomes enveloped and hidden by the handle which the musician holds in his/her hand. One of the possible ways of production of this invention is, for example, the detachable handle made of plastics, by means of which it is possible to firmly grasp and tighten the body of the stick at the end opposite to the end which is used for playing. The detachable handle can be made of other materials besides plastic, for example, rubber, metal etc., in any way which enables simple and easy detaching and reattaching of the body of the stick.
The detachable handle doesn't make the drumstick heavier that the original multi-rod drumsticks with only one tip and non-detachable handle, nor it in any way obstructs the normal and usual way of holding the stick and playing.
As previously mentioned, the multi-rod drumstick made of beam rods with one end used for playing is characterised by extreme frailty which in turn causes extremely fast fraying and breaking of the rods in the beam, at which point the musicians start improvising. For a financial reason while playing in small venues they use inadequate, ordinary wooden drumsticks which are not suitable; for smaller spaces.
Since this usage of an inadequate instrument is frequently very strenuous for the musician, the long-term purpose of this invention is more comfortable and less strenuous playing with the production of the tone of required quality by using the appropriate drumsticks which possess the required primary quality. This frequent usage of appropriate drumsticks which are not frayed has been enabled by lengthening the life-span of the drumsticks and thereby much lower financial investments of the musician.
Therefore, the secondary goal of the invention becomes the increase in the quality of the percussionist performances and the retained health of the musician by increasing the durability of the instrument and reducing the need for the usage of inadequate instruments which influence the health of the wrists and fist in a negative way.
