A rotary disk valve d, having one or more ports for controlling admission and exhaust, is mounted on the inner surface of a separate water-cooled cylinder head a having curved inlet and exhaust passages b, c, as shown. The cylinder head and the valve are of larger diameter than the bore of the cylinder. The valve is held to its seat by a spring h pressing against the underside of a ball bearing j, and is driven by bevel or other gearing g secured to its spindle. The valve may rotate at various speeds according to the cycle on which the engine works.
