Abstract
24,034. Woodworth, T. C. Nov. 10. Locking nuts.-The nut 4 of a bolt 1 used in railway tracks &c. is locked by means of a grooved pin 8 which is driven into a bore 6 in the nut so that the grooves 9 engage the threads 3 of the bolt at a slight angle. Either the pin 8 or the grooves 9 are tapered in such direction that unscrewing tends to increase the locking action. The pin grips the faces of the threads 3, but may, in addition, form slight flats in the bottom and at the apices of the threads.
